Terms of Use
These terms are the agreement between you and us when you use interlinked. Please read them with our Community Guidelines, which are part of these terms, and our Privacy Policy.
Draft — interlinked hasn’t launched yet, and this is still being reviewed. Details in [square brackets] are still to be filled in.
1. About these terms
interlinked is run by [OPERATOR NAME] (“we”, “us”, “our”). By creating an account, you agree to these terms and to our Community Guidelines. Our Privacy Policy explains how we use your personal information. If you don’t agree, please don’t use interlinked.
2. Who can use interlinked
To use interlinked you must:
- be at least 18 years old;
- have a UK university email address (one ending in .ac.uk) and verify it in the app — interlinked is for university students;
- be able to enter into a legally binding agreement;
- not have been convicted of a sexual or violent offence, and not be subject to any sex offender notification requirements [wording to be confirmed];
- not have been banned from interlinked before; and
- have only one interlinked account.
interlinked is currently intended for people living in the United Kingdom.
3. Your account
- Give accurate information, including your real first name and date of birth. Once saved, your date of birth can’t be changed in the app.
- Only verify a university email address that is yours. Each one can only be used for one account.
- Keep your password private and don’t let anyone else use your account. You are responsible for what happens on your account.
- If you think someone else has got into your account, tell us straight away at hello@joininterlinked.com.
- You can change your profile in Edit profile, and your choices in Settings, at any time.
4. How interlinked works
interlinked is designed around a small number of real conversations:
- Discover shows you other members. If you both like each other, you link.
- You can have up to 3 active links at a time. If you or the other person already has 3, the link waits as a pending link and opens automatically, oldest first, when you both have room. Pending links expire after 14 days.
- The 2-day rule: when you link, you each need to send your first message within 2 days. If you don’t, that link ends and your account is paused. You can reactivate it by watching a short advert.
- You can unlink at any time. The chat then disappears for both of you.
- Chats are text only. Photos, videos and web links can’t be sent.
- We decide which profiles appear in Discover and in what order, as our Privacy Policy explains. We can’t promise that you’ll link with anyone.
We may change, add or remove features. If a change affects these terms, we’ll update them (see section 14).
5. Your content
- You own the photos, text and messages you add to interlinked (“your content”).
- You give us permission to store, display and use your content to run interlinked, keep it safe and improve it — for example, showing your profile to other members and delivering your messages. This permission is free and non-exclusive. It ends when you delete the content or your account, except for content we keep as explained in our Privacy Policy (for example, chats that have been reported).
- Only add content you have the right to share. Your photos must be of you, and must not show anyone else without their permission.
- We may remove any content that breaks these terms or the Community Guidelines.
6. Rules for using interlinked
You must follow our Community Guidelines. In particular, you must not:
- harass, threaten, bully, abuse or intimidate anyone;
- post or send anything sexually explicit, hateful, violent or illegal;
- pretend to be someone else, create a fake profile, or let anyone under 18 use interlinked;
- ask anyone for money, or use interlinked for scams, advertising, selling or recruiting;
- share anyone’s private information, or another member’s photos or messages, without their permission;
- try to get around the 3-link limit, the 2-day rule, a block or a ban — for example by creating another account; or
- use bots, scrapers or other automated tools on interlinked, or try to hack, overload or interfere with it.
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behaviour.
7. Safety
- We don’t carry out criminal record or background checks on members, and we can’t confirm that what other members tell you is true. ID checks, when available, confirm who someone is, not what they’re like.
- You are responsible for how you interact with other members, online and in person. Please read the safety tips in our Community Guidelines before meeting anyone.
- If you are ever in danger, call 999.
8. Reports, blocking and how we enforce these terms
- You can report or block any member from their profile or from your chat with them. Reporting always blocks them too. They are not told.
- We aim to review reports within [24 hours].
- While reports are being reviewed, we may hide a profile from Discover.
- If we decide someone has broken these terms or the Community Guidelines, we may remove content, end their links, pause or suspend their account, or ban them permanently. Where appropriate, we may also tell the police.
- If you think we’ve made a mistake about your account, contact us at hello@joininterlinked.com and we’ll look at it again.
9. Adverts
interlinked is free to use and is paid for by adverts — for example, the short advert you watch to reactivate a paused account. Adverts are provided by other companies [Google AdMob — planned], whose own terms may apply. We are not responsible for the products or services that are advertised.
10. Cost
interlinked is currently free. If we introduce paid features, we’ll show you the price and terms clearly before you pay, and you will never be charged without agreeing first.
11. Ending your account
- You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account. It is deleted straight away and can’t be recovered.
- We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms or the Community Guidelines, if the law requires us to, or if we stop providing interlinked. Where it’s reasonable and safe to do so, we’ll tell you why.
- Sections 5 (for content we keep), 12 and 14 still apply after your account ends.
12. Our responsibility to you
- We will provide interlinked with reasonable care and skill. Because it’s a free service that relies on the internet and on other members, we can’t promise it will always be available or free from errors.
- We are not responsible for what other members say or do, on or off interlinked, except where the law says we are.
- We are not responsible for losses that weren’t foreseeable when you agreed to these terms, or for any business losses.
- Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn’t allow us to limit. Your legal rights as a consumer are not affected.
- [Any overall limit on our liability to be confirmed.]
13. Apple and Google
If you downloaded interlinked from the Apple App Store:
- these terms are between you and us, not Apple, and we — not Apple — are responsible for interlinked and its content;
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for interlinked;
- if interlinked fails to meet any warranty that applies, you can tell Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). To the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for interlinked;
- we, not Apple, are responsible for dealing with any claims about interlinked, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and consumer protection claims;
- if anyone claims that interlinked or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are responsible for dealing with that claim;
- you confirm that you are not in a country that is subject to a US Government embargo, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties; and
- Apple and its subsidiaries can enforce these terms against you as third-party beneficiaries.
If you downloaded interlinked from Google Play, Google’s terms for Google Play also apply to your use of Google Play.
14. General
- We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using interlinked after that, the new terms apply; if you don’t agree with them, you can delete your account.
- We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another organisation that takes over interlinked. You can’t transfer yours.
- If a court decides that part of these terms is invalid, the rest still applies.
- If we don’t enforce part of these terms straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring legal proceedings in the courts of England and Wales or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in the courts where you live.
